Gainesville (Ga.) four-star cornerback Zion Ferguson has committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels. He announced the news on Twitter.

A former LSU pledge, Ferguson decommitted from the Tigers on June 25.

The 6-foot-0, 165-pounder is the No. 327 overall prospect and No. 37 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 38 player in Georgia.

Ferguson’s decision to decommit from LSU came on the heels of him taking an official visit to North Carolina over the weekend. It was the lone official visit he scheduled for June.

“They’ve shown a lot of love lately,” Ferguson told On3’s Jeremy Johnson in May. “They’ve had contact with me daily. They have been talking to me and my parents. Coach Mack Brown, I like that he has a plan for me.”

“There’s a little family connection there. That’s definitely important. Family being at the game makes you want to play hard. After the game, being able to see family and going over to grandma’s house and they cooked for me and all. You can’t get that if you’re too far away. That’s something I’ve looked into.”

Zion Ferguson currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $58K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Where UNC’s class stands with Ferguson

Ferguson’s decision to commit to the Tar Heels gives North Carolina 20 pledges in its 2024 class. Ferguson is the highest-ranked player in the class.

As a whole the class ranks No. 28 in the country and No. 4 in the ACC.

Ferguson is one of two four-star commits currently pledged to the Tar Heels. The other is Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep running back Davion Gause.

The Tar Heels also now have three cornerbacks committed in this class. They have Ferguson and a pair of three-star recruits in Jaiden Patterson and Khalil Conley.
