Notre Dame and BYU have announced the date of their showdown in Las Vegas.

The Irish and the Cougars will head to Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders and UNLV Rebels, on Oct. 8, 2022 in a battle of two independents (BYU will not yet be a member of the Big 12) with national fanbases.

The game will be played as part of the Shamrock Series, a collection of neutral site games which the Irish play across the country in an effort to travel to their fans all over the United States and as a recruiting tool for a school that relies heavily on recruits outside of the Midwest.

Notre Dame has never lost a Shamrock Series game; they are 10-0 including the 41-13 win they just notched over Wisconsin last weekend at Chicago’s Solider Field.

Previous destinations for Shamrock Series games include Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park and the Alamodome plus the NFL stadiums of the Washington Football Team, Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts.

Way-too-early 2022 preview

Notre Dame has all 12 opponents scheduled for 2022 and 10 of the games have dates.

The schedule includes home games against Marshall, Cal, Stanford, UNLV and Clemson. The Irish will also make road trips to face Ohio State and North Carolina and will travel to the Coliseum for the annual matchup with USC. Road games against Boston College and Syracuse remain dateless. Notre Dame will play Navy at M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens.

The Irish and the Cougars have faced each other eight times before, and Notre Dame holds the advantage 6-2. The Irish have won three straight, including the only two games between the teams in the Brian Kelly era. In 2012, Notre Dame narrowly escaped against the Cougars 17-14, and the following year they won 23-13.
