Notre Dame fans, rejoice. A big piece of the Fighting Irish men’s basketball team is coming back.

Dane Goodwin took to Twitter to announce he’s running it back for “one last ride” next season. The former four-star recruit been a force for Notre Dame over the last three seasons and helped get the Fighting Irish into the First Four of the NCAA Tournament in 2021-22.

In his tweet, he had a message for Notre Dame fans explaining why he’s coming back.

“Playing at Notre Dame has always been a dream of mine and the last four years have been nothing short of amazing,” Goodwin wrote. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to play one last year with my brothers and excited to see what the group coming back can accomplish. Go Irish!”

Goodwin averaged 13.6 points on 50.4% shooting as a senior as Notre Dame went 24-11 overall and 15-5 in ACC action. His biggest game of the year came in February when he dropped 23 points to help the Fighting Irish to a 99-95 overtime victory over Boston College.

Now, he’s heading back to South Bend, which is huge for Mike Brey and Co. Blake Wesley declared for the NBA Draft and likely won’t return, while Nate Laszewski also declared and maintained his eligibility. However, Paul Atkinson is out of eligibility after the NCAA opted not to give former Ivy League players another year of eligibility. Remember, the Ivy League canceled its 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 concerns.

Notre Dame also has a solid recruiting class coming next season, including three four-stars and two top-100 recruits as part of the nation’s No. 23 recruiting class, according to the On3 Consensus Team Rankings. JJ Starling is a top 25 recruit and Ven-Allen Lubin is the nation’s No. 82 prospect, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
