Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman four-star 2023 cornerback Justyn Rhett committed to Notre Dame on Saturday. The pledge was a longtime coming for the talented junior.

“The reason I chose Notre Dame was because it fit me best,” Rhett said. “Since the day I was in South Bend for the first time, I knew I could see myself playing there.

“It was only a matter of time until I built the relationships I have today with Coach (Marcus) Freeman, Coach (Mike) Mickens and the rest of the staff. Originally I was planning to commit with Brian Kelly being the head coach, but he’s now elsewhere, and that didn’t change any thoughts for me once I heard Coach Freeman was  the new head coach. He was the one who recruited me, and him coming from the defense side of the ball is definitely a plus as well.”

Rhett also discussed how Freeman sees him fitting into the Irish defense once on campus.

“He sees me as a key player and a great fit with how they run their defense. He likes my size, speed, and strength, and sees me as a lockdown corner. I love everything about their schemes, being familiar with them already from talking with with Coach Mickens and former (Notre Dame and Bishop Gorman) player Nicco Fertitta.”

Notre Dame now has seven total commits in the 2023 class with the addition of Justyn Rhett. The On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings opened Saturday with Notre Dame having the No. 2 class in 2023.

The On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services, currently ranks Rhett as the nation’s No. 131 overall prospect and the No. 16 cornerback in the 2023 class.
