Official visit No. 4 for the No. 1 safety Caleb Downs is scheduled. After setting up official visits to Georgia (June 3-5), Alabama (June 17-19), and Ohio State (June 24-26), Downs has locked in a visit to Notre Dame for June 10-12.

This will be the fourth visit to South Bend for the No. 12 prospect in the On3 Consensus. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound five-star out of Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek was at Notre Dame in April for the spring game and he is ready to get back.

“I have been up there a lot and the campus is beautiful,” Downs told On3. “They have a lot of history and tradition and you feel the success of the people when you are on campus. They produce on and off the field at Notre Dame. There is a lot of success there.”

Chris O’Leary is the lead recruiter for Downs. Marcus Freeman and Chad Bowden is highly involved as well. There are not many questions, but Downs has two things on his mind heading into this visit.

“I want to learn more about networking they talk so much about and the campus life. Those things will be big for me on this visit.”

Kyle Hamilton being the first safety drafted grabbed Downs’ attention in the NFL Draft. The academics put the Irish in this race early. Freeman taking over as the head coach only helped Notre Dame’s chances. The No. 1 prospect in Georgia has taken notice of Notre Dame’s success on the recruiting trail this cycle too.

Now it comes down to official visits for Downs.

Caleb Downs Scouting Summary

“Extremely well-rounded safety who has been one of the top prospects in Georgia regardless of class for much of his high school career. Shows a complete skill set as a cover safety. Has the range to cover hash to boundary with ease. Also is fluid and natural in man coverage. Outstanding ball production with 14 interceptions over the first three seasons of his high school career. Instinctual both in coverage and as a cover down defender. Identifies run plays and underneath passes very quickly. Also an active tackler. Shows of his athleticism on offense where he sees snaps at multiple skill positions, including quarterback. Has starred while playing against top competition in the Peach State. Comes from strong bloodlines with a father who was an NFL Draft pick and brother who is one of the better receivers in college football.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
