Last week, one of the top offensive tackles in the 2025 cycle announced that he will soon come off the board.

Four-star OT Owen Strebig out of Waukesha (Wisc.) Catholic Memorial trimmed his list of top schools down to five and set Feb. 8 as the day that he’ll commit. Of the five schools that remain in the mix for the 6-foot-7, 295-pounder, it’s Notre Dame that’s trending for his pledge, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Wisconsin, Florida State, Miami and USC have all made their respective impressions on Strebig throughout his recruitment, but Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish have themselves in a fantastic position to land the O-lineman with his commitment just one week away.

Strebig took multiple game visits to South Bend down the stretch in 2023 and has already returned for a Junior Day trip this January. Each time he interacts with Freeman, OL coach Joe Rudolph and the ND staff, Strebig seems to come away more intrigued by the Hoosier State program.

“Coach Freeman and I have a great relationship,” Strebig told Blue & Gold on Jan. 22. “We’ve been able to spend a lot of time together. My relationship with Coach Rudolph is really strong.”

Only the in-state Badgers have had Strebig on campus as much as ND. While other programs have pushed hard for the four-star, it’s the Irish that appear to be in pole position at the beginning of February.

“I really like Notre Dame’s culture. I can lock down a degree from there and then, I really have a good relationship with not only the staff, but also a good amount of the commits in the 2025 class,” Strebig told On3’s Chad Simmons in December.

Strebig is the No. 125 overall prospect, No. 12 OT and No. 1 player in Wisconsin in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Fighting Irish boast top-10 recruiting class in 2025 cycle

Freeman and Co. have once again kicked off a cycle on the right foot, as the Irish already own commitments from 13 prospects, as of Feb. 1. The class ranks No. 5 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Leading the way is Lucedale (Miss.) George County four-star quarterback Deuce Knight, the No. 41 overall prospect and No. 5 signal-caller in the cycle. He pledged on Sept. 18 and has helped lead the way on the recruiting trail for the Irish since.

Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange four-star safety Ivan Taylor flanks as a fellow top-100 recruit, while the likes of Chicago Simeon four-star EDGE Christopher Burgess and Green Bay (Wisc.) Notre Dame De La Baie four-star tight end James Flanigan round out the top of the class.
