The last week hasn’t exactly been kind to Ohio State in the recruiting department.

On Saturday, four-star cornerback Dijon Johnson announced he was decommitting from the Buckeyes after a visit to Florida. And earlier this week, four-star tight end commit Ty Lockwood flipped to Alabama.

Still, the Buckeyes hold the No. 4 class in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. And they’re now trending to land another blue-chip prospect: four-star safety Jayden Bonsu.

After updates from around the recruiting industry, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) has the Buckeyes in front for Bonsu after Miami previously held a commanding lead. The RPM gives Ohio State a 63.7 percent chance of securing his commitment, which is expected to take place August 14.

Bonsu is the No. 265 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 20 safety and the No. 4 player in New Jersey.

On3 is higher on him than other services though, as shown in the Industry Comparison. In the most recent On300 rankings, Bonsu was tabbed as the No. 152 prospect nationally, No. 13 safety and No. 2 player in the Garden State.

Jayden Bonsu Scouting Summary

“Physical back half defender with striking power and versatility. Well-built and physically-developed at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds. He has good length at safety with arms over 32 inches. Bonsu plays in multiple spots for one of the top talent-producing high school programs in New Jersey. Rolls into the box, covers in the slot and plays deep safety at various times.
