Oklahoma City (Okla.) four-star wide receiver Jaden Nickens has decommitted from Oklahoma, he announced on Wednesday evening.

Nickens had been committed to the Sooners since August 2023, when he chose them over offers from Oklahoma State, North Texas, Penn State and nearly a dozen other programs.

“First I want to give Thanks and all Glory to my Father God above for even giving me the opportunity to play this game,” he wrote on Twitter. “Second, I will like to give love and thanks to the University of Oklahoma! Thank you to, Coach Venables, Coach Jones and the rest of the staff that took me in as family and showed nothing but Love! Thank you Sooner Nation for believing in me and giving me the best support from a college fan base.

… With that being said I will like to announce that I will be decommitting from the University of Oklahoma! This decommitment is all about me and my dreams. I want to experience the process more and explore with my options open, and for the colleges locking back in I’m looking to play both sports. I want to be a duel-sport Student Athlete! I have faith in myself and God that this is part of his will…”

The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder is the No. 201 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Nickens also ranks as the nation’s No. 24 wide receiver and No. 6 recruit in Oklahoma.

He was also one of six early commitments from in-state prospects for Venables and Co. this cycle. Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert four-star quarterback Kevin Sperry got things started in March 2023 with his commitment, and four-star wide receiver Elijah Thomas followed in July. Nickens jumped on board just a few short weeks later.

And then in November, four-star athlete Trynae Washington and three-star defenders Marcus James and Alexander Shieldnight joined the fold. With Nickens’ decommitment, OU is down to nine pledges in the class, four of whom rank as four-star or better prospects.
