Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Marvin Mims is one of the more interesting prospects at his position in the 2023 NFL Draft. Now, he’s seeing his draft stock go up after an impressive showing at the NFL Combine.

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. explained how Marvin Mims was able to improve his stock.

“We knew headed into the week that Mims wasn’t going to be the biggest wideout in Indianapolis, but would he be one of the fastest?” Kiper said. “As a 5-foot-11 deep threat, he needed to show he has elite speed to beat cornerbacks on vertical routes at the next level. That’s exactly what he did Saturday, running a 4.38 40-yard dash, the fifth fastest among the receivers. He also had a solid 39.5-inch vertical leap and 6.90-second 3-cone time.”

Marvin Mims is the type of receiver who liked to blow the roof off a defense while he was at Oklahoma. However, with his size, it’s hard to do that in the NFL. Luckily, he tested well to show off that he can still outrun defensive backs to get open.

“Mims flashed big-time ability at Oklahoma, averaging 19.5 yards per catch and catching 20 touchdown passes over three seasons,” Kiper explained.

“He wasn’t asked to run the entire route tree, however, so he will need some refinement once he gets to the NFL. Headed into the week, I ranked him just outside my top 10 receivers, but he’s going to move up a few spots. I have a Round 3 grade on him, but a team could move into Round 2 to take him in April.”

Marvin Mims’ message to Oklahoma fans

When he declared for the 2023 NFL, Marvin Mims sent out a heartfelt message to Oklahoma fans, thanking them for his time there.

“Sooner Nation, thank you for making a 17 year old boy’s dreams come true!” Marvin Mims wrote.

“The endless support and love will never be taken for granted. Y’all made me realize what being a Sooner truly means. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
