There’s no secrets regarding Porter Moser and Oklahoma basketball’s bye week coming up. After a loss to Kansas, the Sooners have to reset.

The 67-57 loss dropped Moser’s squad to 18-8 on the year. They’ll return to action this coming Saturday on the road against Oklahoma State.

But for now, it’s about getting better.

“We’re gonna navigate the week,” Moser said. “You know, it’s our bye week and we’ve been playing every you know, three days since Christmas as everyone else is. So we’ve got to go on a mission. You gotta go on a mission to get better. Gotta go on a mission to get fresh, healthy and tons to look forward to in these final five games, and we want to get better this week.

“We had a really poor second half ,a really poor second half. Shooting it, taking care of it, rebounding, and we’ve got to get on a mission this week. Get fresh, and get better.”

It could be the last Bedlam game for awhile in Norman, and Moser believes the Sooners crowd showed out in droves. Speaking with the media after the victory, Moser was still buzzing, as he addressed the importance of sending Oklahoma fans home happy with a Bedlam win.

“I mean, I’d be lying to say anything different but absolutely,” Moser stated. “I thought the crowd had tremendous energy. They were in it the whole time. It’s what you vision. You look around and it’s completely filled. To have them walking away with the win? It was, it was. And it wasn’t the prettiest thing. It wasn’t. We — all the different things. Just how it went down. We were up seven, and then all of a sudden we get a technical, two free throws, we foul a three-point shooter and then John gets a foul on a ball-screen. Boom, that’s seven free throws. Just like that. So there were so many ebbs and flows.”

Porter Moser denies interest in DePaul head coaching vacancy

DePaul is looking for a new leader of their program after firing Tony Stubblefield, and some have theorized they’ll go after Oklahoma Sooners leader Porter Moser.

Well, if you take Moser at his word, there’s a slim-to-none chance that comes to fruition. He dispelled rumors of that possibility in quite convincing fashion, while speaking with the media on Monday afternoon.

“Absolutely not engaging in anything like that,” Moser said, regarding his reported interest, per Bob Przybylo of Sooner Scoop. “Nothing true.”

Evidently, DePaul will have to look elsewhere, as they look to rebuild their program. Oklahoma is where Porter Moser wants to be, and where he looks to be building something special for the future.
