Gray (Ga.) Jones County four-star wide receiver Zion Ragins told On3’s Chad Simmons earlier this month that six schools had his attention: Tennessee, Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida State, Auburn and USF.

But after an official visit to Oklahoma over the weekend, the Sooners are trending heavily for the speedy wideout, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Following an expert prediction from SoonerScoop.com’s Josh McCuistion, OU now has a 92.6 percent chance of securing Ragins’ commitment, per the RPM.

“The explosive wide receiver from Gray (Ga.) Jones County saw the Sooners this weekend and from all reports things went very well,” McCuistion wrote on Sunday. “In fact, he’s one that seemed like a decision could be coming from. But for now, we’re simply going to put a forecast in for Oklahoma and see where it goes from there. There is talk of the visit to see the Bulldogs next weekend but some are unsure if that visit will take place.”

Oklahoma pushing hard to land Zion Ragins

Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jeff Lebby and wide receivers coach Emmett Jones have led the charge for the Sooners in pursuit of Ragins, who was the Georgia 5A state champion in the 100-meter dash as both a freshman and sophomore. He has developed a strong bond with both and also likes the city environment in Norman coming from a town of a little over 3,000 in Gray.

“Oklahoma is in a city a little bit,” Ragins told Simmons. “It’s different from home.”

In 10 games as a junior last fall, he caught 46 passes for 557 yards and 3 TD while also carrying the ball 38 times for 161 yards and 2 more TD.

Ragins is the No. 131 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 23 wide receiver and the No. 22 recruit in Georgia.

Sooners heating up on the recruiting trail

The start of the 2024 recruiting cycle may have been a bit slow for the Sooners but things have picked up significantly over the last few months.

Four-star cornerback Jeremiah Newcombe became Oklahoma’s first 2024 pledge with his commitment on March 25.

Newcombe’s commitment was followed up shortly with a commitment from four-star quarterback Michael Hawkins (April 8). The Sooners landed commitments from three-star offensive tackle Isaiah Autry and three-star wide receiver Kelly Daniels a few weeks later. Four-stars Jaydan Hardy and Zion Kearney joined the fold at the end of April, pushing the Sooners up to six total commitments.
