Head coach Chris Beard and Ole Miss suffered a tough loss against Auburn, 91-77, on Saturday. Throughout the game, it was clear that Ole Miss was missing center Jamarion Sharp.

After the game, Beard revealed the injury status of Sharp after he missed the game.

“Yeah, we obviously missed him tonight,” Chris Beard said. “No doubt about it, especially playing Auburn, an opponent that we needed another big.”

In 21 games this season, Sharp has averaged 3.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game. He’s also blocked 54 shots on the season. His inside presence is surely something that Ole Miss was missing against Auburn too, with the Tigers winning the overall rebounding battle 42 to 26. That included holding Ole Miss to just eight offensive rebounds. That, coupled with shooting at a higher percentage, helped Auburn get the big win.

Despite that, Chris Beard didn’t want to use missing Jamarion Sharp as an excuse for the loss.

“So, not an excuse. Auburn beats us tonight no matter who we have playing the way we played in the second half, but Books wasn’t able to play tonight. It’s an illness, not an injury, and so at this point, he’s kind of day-to-day.”

With the loss, Chris Beard saw his Ole Miss team drop to 18-4 on the season and 5-4 in what has proven to be a highly competitive SEC. It also moved Ole Miss to fifth in the conference regular season standings. Auburn, meanwhile, improved to 7-2 and 18-4 overall. That’s good for third in the conference.

Next up for Ole Miss is a tough road game against South Carolina.

Johni Broome reveals what went through his mind while slapping Morgan Freeman

Legendary actor Morgan Freeman was sitting courtside for the game between Ole Miss and Auburn. That, in turn, led to an awkward interaction for Johni Broome of Auburn.

On a play where Broome leaped near the sideline, he fell near Freeman. An older man now, Freeman went to brace himself from a potential collision. In the process, he grabbed Broome’s jersey and Broome slapped his hand away before realizing who he was.

That led to a quick apology, as Johni Broome explained what happened following the game.

“I thought it was an Ole Miss fan like just grabbing my jersey, like holding onto me. I kind of just got the hand off. But I saw who it was, and like I’m a big movie guy. I probably watched one of his movies on the plane coming here,” Broome said.

“But I realized it was him, I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m a big fan, sorry.’ He just said, ‘Just keep playing.’ And you know, I came back out of there again and I’m like, ‘I’m sorry again.’ He’s like, ‘You’re all good, just keep playing.’ Very good guy. Love him.”
