Picayune (Miss.) Picayune Memorial three-star running back Chris Davis has announced his commitment to Ole Miss. He chose the Rebels over Florida State, Oregon and Mississippi State among others.

Davis is the No. 523 overall prospect and No. 47 running back in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 18 player in Mississippi.

“The atmosphere and the people at Ole Miss are crazy,” Davis told On3’s Chad Simmons on March 3. “Everything there is awesome. I talk to Lane Kiffin and Coach Kevin (Smith), the new running backs coach.

“They always talk about how they want me and I know I will be back up there soon.”

The 6-foot-0, 165-pound tailback is now the fourth member of Ole Miss’ 2024 recruiting class. The others are Chandler (Ariz.) Basha four-star quarterback Demond Williams Jr., Winona (Miss.) Winona Secondary School three-star linebacker Fred Clark and Jackson (Miss.) Callaway three-star wide receiver Jeremy Scott.

Last season, Davis had 122 carries for 1,078 yards and 15 touchdowns. A year before, he found the end zone 17 times.

Ole Miss looking to continue recruiting success from last cycle

In the 2023 cycle, Kiffin and his staff missed out on Davis’ high school teammate and four-star tailback Dante Dowdell, who chose Oregon. Now, the Rebels have pledges from three of the top 25 players in Mississippi.

Ole Miss’ class is currently No. 23 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. It it also No. 10 in the SEC.

Meanwhile, the Rebels landed one running back last cycle. New Caney (Texas) four-star Kedrick Reescano ranked as the No. 97 overall prospect and No. 5 tailback in the 2023 On300.

Ole Miss’ 2023 group ranked No. 25 in the 2023 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. It also finished No. 11 in the SEC.

Kiffin and his staff landed two players in that class who ranked in the top-100 of the 2023 On3 Industry Ranking. One was Raleigh (Miss.) Five-Star Plus+ linebacker Suntarine Perkins.

Davis has an On3 NIL Valuation of $21K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
