Under the radar SEC Storylines: Ole Miss QBs, Spencer Rattler needs HELP, Devin Leary can SPIN it

By now, you have probably figured out Lane Kiffin is not afraid to use the NCAA transfer portal. All positions are available to transfer to the Sip throughout the winter and spring windows. Ole Miss had a total of 50 players depart and enter the program, being one of the highest portal usages in the country.

With all of the turnover in Oxford, questions could be asked about the culture. Ole Miss seemingly starts fresh on a yearly basis, having completely new rosters. Kiffin knows he has to keep up with modern times but at some point, establishing a culture has to be a priority.

If you ask defensive back Deantre Prince, he feels like the players are responsible for making sure all of the transfers feel welcome. He will be entering his fifth season with Ole Miss, truly being one of the veterans on the roster.

Prince makes sure everybody is connecting with one another during the offseason so come game time, the Rebels are ready to win on the field.

“I feel like the culture, it’s about the players,” Prince said. “I’m a veteran now, so I feel like it’s my duty. If somebody come in as a transfer, I feel like it’s my job to collect fun activities for them on the weekend so we can get to know each other as a defense and as a team. I think that’s very important.”

Ole Miss will have a few more weekends full of bonding activities before games startup. Sept. 2 will be the Rebels’ season opener, facing off against Mercer. Prince will make sure everybody is ready to go, having the culture in a good place at the right time.

Ole Miss defense working into Pete Golding era

Prince is making sure the entire Ole Miss defense is fitting in with one another, hoping to work well when on the field together. They are also learning a new system under defensive coordinator Pete Golding who came into the program via Alabama.

Golding was a huge coup for Kiffin, poaching him from Nick Saban. We all know the relationship Kiffin and Saban have, even as SEC West rivals. Being able to snag Golding away is something Ole Miss will be hoping pays off in a big way.

Just as much as the players are getting accustomed to a new roster, so is Golding. A big offseason full of transition that everyone surrounding Ole Miss hopes translates to success.
