Former Ole Miss star Dontario Drummond was not selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. But on Saturday evening, he quickly made his undrafted free agency decision–deciding to sign with the Dallas Cowboys, per On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Drummond was a former three-star recruit from Mississippi according to the On3 Consensus rankings, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. He began his college career at the JUCO level and was named first-team NJCAA All-American in 2018. He moved to the FBS level and stayed in Mississippi, making an immediate impact and playing in all 12 games his first year with the team. In 2021, he emerged as a great weapon for Matt Corral and led the Rebels with 76 receptions, 1,028 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He also served as punt returner for the Rebels when asked.

Drummond finished his career with Ole Miss having 15 receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, a versatile weapon in the Rebels offense.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein broke down that Drummond’s available film didn’t help him stand out much from the competition, but his speed at the combine and route running is a huge plus. His physical attributes all seem NFL-ready, but his breakout 2021 season didn’t show him get challenged often enough. “Drummond’s play speed can be inconsistent, so his timed speed could be an indicator of which direction his draft stock might head,” said Zierlein. “He’s a smooth athlete with the ability to run a more robust route tree with additional schooling but the hands and ball skills are a little disappointing and might not improve much. Drummond’s run-after-catch talent is where he shines and where he brings instant value for a team. He has an intriguing ceiling but a lower floor as a Day 3 target.”
