Winona (Miss.) Winona Secondary School three-star linebacker Fred Clark announced his decommitment from Ole Miss on Thursday night. He was previously pledged to the Rebels since March 7.

Clark is the No. 817 overall prospect and No. 88 linebacker in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 25 player in Mississippi.

On3 rates Clark higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Even though he is not ranked in the 2024 On300, Clark is the No. 58 linebacker in the country and the No. 16 player in Mississippi.

“After a long talk with my family and coaches, I’ve decided to open my recruitment back up and de-commit from the University of Mississippi,” Clark wrote in a message published to Twitter. “Thanks to the coaching staff at Ole Miss for the love and opportunity.”

Clark spent June 1 on a visit to Mississippi State. It marked his first visit to the Bulldogs since June 10 of last year.

“I am only 45 minutes away from the campus, so I am very familiar with things there,” Clark told On3’s Chad Simmons on March 2 about Mississippi State. “I know players, I go play basketball there and it is just a good feeling when I am there.”

Following Clark’s decision, Ole Miss’ 2024 recruiting class is No. 19 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 11 in the SEC. It contains eight players: Bay Springs (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman Kamron Beavers, Pascagoula (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman Jeffery Rush, Chandler (Ariz.) Basha four-star quarterback Demond Williams Jr., Picayune (Miss.) Picayune Memorial three-star running back Chris Davis, New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr three-star wide receiver Rahji Dennis, Clarksdale (Miss.) three-star cornerback Patrick Broomfield, Jackson (Miss.) Callaway three-star wide receiver Jeremy Scott and Ellisville (Miss.) Jones College linebacker Raymond Collins.

“I am willing to explore anything,” Clark said. “If I feel best on a school outside Mississippi, then I will go there. I am high on Ole Miss and Mississippi State, but one is not higher than the other.

“I am still looking at all the schools that are recruiting me. Schools have started to move up my list yet.”

Clark last visited Ole Miss on Jan. 29. The Rebels still have commitments from two of the top players in Mississippi in Beavers and Rush.
