According to ESPN’s Chris Low, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin met with his players on Tuesday. He discussed being linked to the Auburn job, saying he has not accepted an offer to coach elsewhere. Per the report, Kiffin said his focus was on Thursday’s Egg Bowl against Mississippi State.

“Amid speculation he’s leaving for the Auburn head-coaching job, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin met with his players Tuesday and assured them that he hasn’t accepted a job at any other school, sources told ESPN,” Low said.

Kiffin addressed those same rumors on Monday night via Twitter as well, shooting down a report he would step down from Ole Miss on Friday. For now, he is working toward getting another win against the Rebels’ bitter in-state rivals on Thanksgiving.

Low is also reporting that alongside Kiffin, Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze is considered a top candidate for new athletic director John Cohen. Both have experience in the SEC, mainly with Ole Miss, and have successful track records.

Auburn still has Carnell “Cadillac” Williams serving as their interim coach with Saturday’s Iron Bowl approaching. With the current calendar of college football not slowing down once the regular season ends, the Tigers could be looking to make a move quickly.

More on Lane Kiffin, connection to Auburn job

Ole Miss has reached new heights under Kiffin, earning their first 10-win regular season last year. Their only two losses came at the hand of Alabama and Auburn but the Rebels still made an appearance in the Sugar Bowl against Baylor.

It’s no secret that Auburn wants Kiffin to be their next coach. It’s tough to conduct a coaching search while games are still being played but the Tigers have not hidden their intentions.

However, for now, Kiffin is still wearing Ole Miss colors. He was asked about the rumors linking him to Auburn on after Saturday’s game vs. Arkansas, saying he is “very happy” with how things are going in Oxford. Kiffin then stated how excited he was about the Rebels’ future, even with one regular season game remaining.

“I’m very happy here…Very happy here and appreciative of the leadership here,” Kiffin said. “I love being here. There’s a lot of people coming back (next year), a lot of good guys coming back. Very excited about the future.”
