Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin agreed to a contract extension with the Rebels before Christmas, inking a deal that will keep him under contract through 2028.

Kiffin shed some light on the details of that new extension as the Rebels prepared for their Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl game against Penn State.

“I’m very grateful to be hired here in the first place four seasons ago and to get an extension, which didn’t change any financial part of the situation, just added length and commitment that this is where we want to be and commitment from the university,” Kiffin said.

The news that there is no financial change in the deal is new, as Ole Miss did not announce financial terms when it announced the extension.

Kiffin’s base salary was set to increase to $8.85 million per year in 2024, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. Having led the Rebels to two 10-win seasons now in four years, Kiffin was clearly worth it to the program’s brass.

For his part, Lane Kiffin is excited to keep things rolling.

“Just really pleased to be part of that. Very grateful for our staff, for our leadership here and our players,” he said. “They’ve done amazing to win 10 games two of the last three seasons. To think of where it was when we got here and where it is now and what’s been going on in recruiting that will lead into next year is really amazing just to be a part of. Excited to watch these guys play one more game.”

Kiffin’s current stint at Ole Miss is now his longest as a head coach, with no signs of it ending any time soon.

Ole Miss was a fringe College Football Playoff contender in 2023, and the Rebels will almost certainly be favored to secure a playoff berth in 2024 after making some substantial additions through the NCAA transfer portal, coupled with the fact that the field expands to 12 teams next season.

The leadership at Ole Miss had nothing but positive things to say about Lane Kiffin, starting with athletics director Keith Carter.

“Our football program is experiencing unprecedented success under coach Kiffin, and we could not be more excited about what the future holds under his leadership,” Carter said in a statement when Ole Miss announced the extension. “In just four years, he has established our team as a sustained winner that is on a trajectory to championship status. With our continued investment in the program and the tremendous support of the Grove Collective, the Ole Miss family is committed to providing Coach Kiffin the resources needed to compete at an elite level.”
