Ole Miss has a giant elephant in the room thanks to a division opponent’s decision. After Auburn fired Bryan Harsin, Lane Kiffin has been mentioned as a serious candidate for the Tiger’s job ever since, even though he’s in the middle of a great season with the Rebels. With that all swirling around his program, though, Kiffin says he can’t afford to address it with his team.

Kiffin spoke about the rumors again during his press conference on Monday and how it affects his roster. He said he doesn’t discuss it with his players at all because of the mindset of their program. Considering it has nothing to do with Ole Miss’ season, he says he won’t respond to it regardless of whether it’s right or wrong for his team.

“I don’t (discuss it). Maybe I’m wrong for that. Just never have,” said Kiffin. “We treat this like (a) pro mindset. We’re here to work, get better every day, and worry about what you can control. So we don’t even talk about that.”

Kiffin is in his third season with the Rebels with this being their second consecutive great year. Ole Miss went 10-3 last season and currently sits at 8-1 in 2022. Even with all the attention the Rebels are getting for their play, though, the storyline around Kiffin has now shifted from Oxford to The Plains.

This story will hang over the Rebels for the remainder of their season whether they like it or not. Auburn wants to go big game hunting in their coaching search and Kiffin is one of the biggest catches they could reasonably pry away. This will also stick with Kiffin and Ole Miss through the start of their upcoming offseason as well. Still, all he and the Rebels can do is push onward until decisions like this one need to be made.
