With an early 6-3 lead over Arkansas in their CWS matchup, Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco explained how mistakes kept the game close. Ole Miss scored two runs in each of the first three innings, but allowed Arkansas to build offense and keep within three runs because of poor fielding, according to Bianco.

Before the fourth inning, Bianco was interviewed by the ESPN broadcast team about their hot start and how they were able to build an early lead.

“Getting a lot of good swings off, obviously you’re always excited when you can swing it like that,” said Bianco. “But we’ve gotta do a better job in the field. Unfortunately our guy’s pitching great, it just doesn’t look like it. We misplayed a couple balls, we mispositioned Gonzalez in the first inning, give up an easy ground ball. We don’t catch a fly ball in the sun and the wind. And then we kick one, so we made it hard on him.”

Hunter Elliott gave up four hits and three runs through three innings to Arkansas, but only one of the runs was scored as an earned run. Elliott also struck out 4 of his first 14 batters faced.

With nine runs scored by both teams combined in the first three innings, Bianco was asked how they were going to keep their lead throughout the game.

“Keep scoring,” joked Bianco.
