The season is still in its infancy, but Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral looks like one of the most efficient players in the country. According to Pro Football Focus, Corral has the most drop backs without a turnover-worthy play (79).

It’s not just that Corral limits his mistakes, however. The quarterback also is a threat to throw a deep pass any time he drops back. The Rebels lead all FBS teams with 36% of their passes going for 15 or more yards.

Through two games, Corral has a completion rate of 66.2% with 662 yards and six touchdowns. He has helped Ole Miss to a 2-0 record that includes lopsided victories over Louisville and Austin Peay.

The top returning passer in the SEC, Corral is beginning to make a case for himself as one of the best quarterback in FBS.

He is coming off of his best season as a sophomore after throwing for 3,337 yards and 29 touchdowns. However, he also had 14 interceptions for an average of 1.4 per game. He appears to have cleaned that up this offseason while managing to still put up prolific numbers.

The Rebels are set to take on Tulane at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday in Oxford. Following that, they open SEC play with their toughest test yet against No. 1 Alabama.

The Green Wave (1-1) are not a team to be taken lightly. They nearly knocked off Oklahoma in Week 1, eventually succumbing 40-35. That game was originally scheduled to be played in New Orleans, but Hurricane Ida forced it to be moved to Norman. The following week, Tulane defeated Morgan State, 69-20.

Quarterback Michael Pratt leads the offense. He has thrown for 420 yards and five touchdowns, but will need to increase his offensive output to keep up with Ole Miss.

Matt Corral will look to continue to remain efficient this week and beyond. If he can continue to make good decision with the football, the Rebels could be a dark horse candidate in the SEC.
