Neeo Avery was back at Ole Miss this weekend and he felt right at home. Late in June, the 6-foot-5, 225-pound four-star athlete out of Glen Burnie (Md.) Good Counsel was in Oxford too. That is when it hit him that he wanted to be a Rebel.

“I have known for a month that I was going to Ole Miss,” Avery told On3. “When I got down there in June, I heard their plan for me academically and as a football player. They showed me I was important. The coaches made me feel like a priority. After that visit, I really knew it was Ole Miss.”

Avery went back home and spent most of July thinking about his future. The more the No. 253 prospect in the On3 Consensus thought about his recruitment, the stronger he felt about the Rebels.

The connections were there. The plan was in place. There was no reason to wait any longer.

“Ole Miss just kept standing out to me. I did some soul-searching in July, but I feel really good about Ole Miss. Kentucky was up there too, but Ole Miss is different. From the way they believe in me to their development to my relationships with the coaches, it is the right fit for me.

“The coaches at Ole Miss showed they were interested in me, not just the football player. They have been truly invested in getting to know me. They care about me, they want the best for me, and that meant a lot to me.”

Neeo Avery is a believer in Lane Kiffin

Maurice Crum and Charles Partridge were the lead recruiters for Avery. He committed to Ole Miss to play their JOKER position. It is an outside linebacker in their defense. He is excited about the defensive plan and being able to play for head coach Lane Kiffin.

“Coach Kiffin is a great coach,” Avery said. “He is a cool coach that I can talk to. He is an amazing recruiter that gets to know his players. Coach Kiffin believes in me, I believe in me, and we are on the same page.

“Ole Miss won 10 games last season and things are trending up. I like how he runs the program and what coach Kiffin is doing at Ole Miss. He has Ole Miss competing at a high level and the program is going to keep getting better with top recruits and transfers coming in.”

Avery, a one-time Penn State commit, has now visited Oxford three times. He will be back in the fall for games and he is already comfortable in the Grove.

“The campus is amazing and the people around Ole Miss are great. I walk around and people already know my name. The love is there, I am very comfortable at Ole Miss, and it feels like home.”
