Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. thinks the Rebels’ offensive line is very valuable going into the 2023 season.

He raved about the continuity of the big boys up front and that should bode well for running lanes and great pass protection. Ole Miss will certainly need it in a tough SEC West.

Weis Jr. described what it means to have the offensive line on the same page heading into the regular season.

“Yeah, I think the continuity is really important for that group up front,” Weis Jr. said. “Having four or five guys back from a year ago. Obviously, Eli (Acker’s) played ball, you know, Reece (McIntyre) has played some ball. So we’ve got a bunch of guys in that room that have played and played together.

“And so kind of once again, talking about the tempo and some of the things that we do schematically, I think it’s really good to have guys who have played a lot in this system and really understand what we’re trying to accomplish.”

Weis Jr. complemented new guys coming in and joining the fray right away. It’s been seamless this offseason for the offseason.

“They can make calls at a very fast pace, get lined up and go and be all on the same page,” Weis Jr. said. “And you know, at the end of the day, if we’re going, we’re assignment sound and doing what we’re supposed to do, that creates huge benefits. It’s good having a couple of new guys coming in here to, you know, Quincy and Vic and, you know, seeing them develop and progress along and join those guys.”

As compared to last year, Ole Miss is quite ahead in the offensive line development. What that means for next season is anyone’s guess.

But, the 2023 season should be one for the books when it comes to the Ole Miss offensive line.

“Yeah, I think probably a little bit further ahead,” Weis Jr. said of the development this sumer. “Just because you know, with having four of those five guys back from a year ago. You now last year we bumped in Jaden and Micah and moved Jeremy into guard.

“So some of those things happen kind of late, you know, actually in season and some of that right there. So probably a little bit further ahead than we were a year ago at this point.”
