South Alabama transfer DB Yam Banks commits to Ole Miss
Former South Alabama defensive back Yam Banks has committed to Ole Miss, via the NCAA Transfer Portal.
The 6-foot-1, 208-pound prospect from Ridgeland, Miss., burst onto the scene in Mobile the last two seasons. In 2023, Banks made 45 tackles, defended three passes, grabbed one interception, had one sack and forced one fumble.
The year before, he had six interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, 50 total tackles and 11 pass deflections. Banks will be a much-needed replacement for Ole Miss losses, including DaiJahn Anthony, DeShawn Gaddie and Deantre Prince.
Yam Banks played high school football at Ridgeland (MS), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 2,709 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
He is only the latest addition for head coach Lane Kiffin and the Rebels. Banks is the 13th player Ole Miss has reeled in through the transfer portal during this window. The Rebels currently have the No. 3 incoming portal class, according to On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.
