Spencer Sanders is still getting adjusted to a handful of new targets to throw to after transferring to Ole Miss this offseason. Still, there’s not much you have to do when you have targets like Rebel tight end Michael Trigg to work with.

Sanders spoke about his connection with Trigg after their spring game where he targeted him several times. He answered the question with a question of his own as he knows that Trigg is a fairly obvious option to get the ball to considering his talent and ability to make things happen.

“If you were me, would you throw it to Trigg? I figured,” jokes Sanders as the reporter nodded his head.

“That’s an all-around talent guy right there. He’s a hell of a player,” Sanders continued. “He can make plays that you don’t think anybody could make. And he’s just an unbelievable player, an awesome football player. He’s a great person as well. (We’re) kind of building that chemistry and I just want to build it the best I can.”

Trigg put up decent numbers in his first season in Oxford after arriving as the second-best tight end in the transfer portal last offseason. He caught 17 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore in 2022. All three of those scores came against Central Arkansas where he tied Ole Miss’ receiving touchdown record.

Trigg showed even more flashes during this weekend’s spring game too. His final stat line of the day featured nine catches for 138 yards and a touchdown, which was thrown by Sanders, as part of the Blue team.

Now, regardless of who wins out as the Rebel’s QB1, it’s safe to say that Trigg will be even more involved offensively as a junior next fall. In Sanders’ eyes, he doesn’t know how he couldn’t be either considering what he has shown this spring already.

Sanders shares where he stands after spring football

Ole Miss quarterback Spencer Sanders put on quite a performance in the team’s Grove Bowl spring game Saturday. The Oklahoma State transfer scored four total touchdowns and added over 300 yards of offense.

Sanders has spent a good chunk of the spring limited due to a shoulder injury. But the game was a reminder of the talent and ability of the former Cowboys starter and first-team All-Big 12 quarterback.

After the game, Sanders talked about where he feels he is at in getting settled within the Rebels program.

“There’s guys here that helped me come a long way, like you said, check off those boxes,” Sanders said. “There’s a lot of guys that are very supportive of me here and helping me. I’m very grateful for those guys. I couldn’t do it without the five in front of me, the four outside, and the guy next to me.”
