Ole Miss vs. Tennessee continues controversy on injured players
Saturday night’s Ole Miss at Tennessee game has reignited the injured player controversy. Trying to piece together a game-winning drive in the final minutes of the game, the Volunteers were driving until an Ole Miss defender went down with an injury.
Defensive back Miles Battle appeared to suffer a leg injury, going down to the grass and holding his right ankle. As trainers attended to him on the field, Tennessee fans booed him for taking time of the clock in a 31-26 game.
This all comes in Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s homecoming to Rocky Top on a night many Volunteer fans were hoping Tennessee could announce it is back to being a threat in the SEC.
Former Virginia Tech quarterback Hendon Hooker has been excellent for Tennessee, throwing and rushing for a touchdown.
Injury controversy outside of Ole Miss vs. Tennessee
Faking injuries has taken a spotlight in college football over the past week after James Franklin called out Iowa fans for booing Penn State injuries.
Even Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz, alleged that the Nittany Lions were faking injuries to stop Iowa’s momentum.
“So how does this strategy make sense against a huddle team?” Franklin asked. “People use this strategy to slow people down—spread offenses, tempo offenses—they (Iowa) huddle, so that strategy did not make sense in this situation. In our six years of playing them, six years straight. 4-2 with our record, has that ever shown up? Has anyone seen that? In my eight years as a head coach has that showed up, at Penn State? In my 12 years as a head coach has that showed up? It’s not shown up. Plus our defense was playing lights out. Our defense was playing great.”
