Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Hillcrest four-star safety Travaris Banks has announced his commitment to Ole Miss. He chose the Rebels over offers from Alabama, Florida State, Mississippi State and Tennessee among others.

Banks is the No. 196 overall prospect and No. 15 safety in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 12 player in Alabama.

On3 rates Banks higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, he is the No. 184 overall prospect in the country and the No. 11 player in Alabama.

“I’m looking for a program that wants me as much as I want them, a program where I’ll be able to get developed the best and get a great education at the same time,” Banks told On3’s Sam Spiegelman on Feb. 28. “Once I commit on June 18, I just want to be able to focus on having a great senior year. That’s one reason you see me taking so many visits in the spring.”

Banks is the newest member of Ole Miss’ top-25 class

The 6-foot-1.5, 196-pound recruit is the fourth four-star in Ole Miss’ 2024 recruiting class. Bay Springs (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman Kamron Beavers, Pascagoula (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman Jeffery Rush and Chandler (Ariz.) Basha four-star quarterback Demond Williams Jr. are the others.

Following Banks’ commitment, Ole Miss’ 2024 recruiting class ranks No. 21 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 11 in the SEC. It now contains 11 players.

They are Banks, Beavers, Rush, Williams Jr., Medina (Tenn.) South Gibson three-star athlete Cameron Clark, New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr three-star wide receiver Rahji Dennis, Clarksdale (Miss.) three-star cornerback Patrick Broomfield, Baton Rouge (La.) Southern University Lab School three-star offensive tackle Jude Foster, Jackson (Miss.) Callaway three-star wide receiver Jeremy Scott, Many (La.) Natchitoches Central three-star interior offensive lineman Joseph Cryer and Ellisville (Miss.) Jones College linebacker Raymond Collins.

“I felt like I was a big priority to them,” Williams Jr. told On3’s Chad Simmons on Dec. 30. “So for me to be able to commit, I feel like they were super happy and they were definitely happy that they got their guy.”

“I definitely want to play against the highest competition,” he added. “And I feel like there’s no better place to do it than the SEC West.”
