Since his decommitment from Penn State, Glen Burnie (Md.) athlete Neeo Avery has seen his recruitment take off again. The latest school to enter the mix is Oregon, which extended him an offer on Monday morning.

Avery is the No. 213 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 8 athlete and the No. 5 junior player in Maryland.

After committing to the Nittany Lions in December, Avery decided to back off that pledge in late-March following a surge in interest from other schools. Avery told On3’s Chad Simmons at the time of his decommitment that Ole Miss and Kentucky as two showing a lot of interest and Miami and USC as two schools getting involved in his recruitment.

“This was a really tough decision,” Avery said. “Me and my mom, we really sat down and thought about it, talked about it, for a long time. It wasn’t easy because Penn State has treated me like family, even stuck with me through my injury. I really appreciated that.”

He said he Penn State is still very much in the mix, but he does plan to take official visits this summer and into the fall before he plans on making another decision. Since his decommitment, Neeo Avery has visited both Ole Miss and South Carolina. A he has locked in an official visit to Kentucky for June.
