This offseason, Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix has stepped up in several different ways. According to wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Junior Adams, one of those ways that Nix is stepping up is to actually lead the wide receivers.

Adams explained this following one of Oregon’s recent spring practices.

“I think Bo is doing a really good job of taking the leadership role, right, and putting the arm around the wideouts when things don’t go the way we want them to go,” Junior Adams said.

“He’s doing a good job of getting us into the right play call. One thing you guys don’t see is what he does when no one else is around and how he corrals the guys. He’ll sit with them and watch film or he’ll be in there in the offensive staff meetings, hearing what the coaches are talking about.”

This difference that Junior Adams is pointing out is something that head coach Dan Lanning seemed to echo.

“The ability to be vocal and know that he doesn’t have to wait for somebody to say ‘Hey, go ahead and say it.’ He’s willing to do that,” Lanning said. “And he’s done a good job of that.”

Junior Adams is co-offensive coordinator at Oregon, working with new offensive coordinator Will Stein. To this point, he’s someone that Bo Nix has loved to work with.

“I’m excited to have Coach Stein with us,” Nix said. “Just being around him all spring — some practices, some walkthroughs — very knowledgable of the game. He played the position. He knows what to expect. He’s seen a lot like I have. He’s been in a lot of different offenses with verbiage and stuff. So, I’m excited about that, get into game situations with him. See what I’m seeing and also getting his perspective on the sideline and collaborate together and make plans together when it comes to games.”

Bo Nix on his comfort level

Going into his second season at Oregon and his fifth season as a starting quarterback in college football, Bo Nix assessed his current level of comfort.

“I feel a lot more comfortable, just because I’ve been here for a year,” Nix said after Oregon’s spring game.

“I know everyone much better, I know where everything is, I know the schedule. … Now, everybody’s looking at me now, so it’s important that I take being comfortable and use it in a good way.”
