Dan Lanning and Oregon have picked up a big commitment.

San Jose (Calif.) Valley Christian wide receiver Jurrion Dickey committed to the Ducks over Penn State, UCLA, USC, and Washington. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound four-star is the No. 86 prospect in the On3 Consensus and he is ready to be part of the program in Eugene.

“I have known for a month or so now that I wanted to go to Oregon, but I made the final decision when I was there with my mom recently,” Dickey told On3. “On that visit, my mom was very emotional. She saw how happy I was, she knew it was the right fit, and she sees me growing there.

“When that happened, I knew it. We both feel Oregon is a really good place for me to grow, develop, and do really well. I know I found my spot.”

The new staff was a big part of that.

Lanning was heavily involved, but many others played a role in this too. From wide receivers to coach Junior Adams to offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham to defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi to the chief of staff Marshall Malchow.

Their joint effort paid off.

“It is a different atmosphere with the new coaching staff. They all recruited me, they all made me feel important, and they all made a big impact on my decision.

“I wasn’t really looking at Oregon with the old staff there, but that quickly changed. The new staff makes it where kids want to work and perform at another level. It is a different atmosphere at Oregon now.

“It is where I want to be. The people, the school, the opportunity, I know Oregon is where I want to be.”

It was an easy decision for Dickey

Dickey had a final five, but it really came down to Oregon and UCLA. The Ducks got Dickey on campus in January, then again this spring. In the end, it was an easy decision for the No. 7 prospect in California.

“It wasn’t hard at all,” Dickey said. “Oregon is the perfect fit for me. I know it. My mom knows it. I have been feeling it for a while now.

“Oregon is the perfect mix for me. It is business, it is fun, it is strict, it is enjoyable – it is everything I was looking for. Oregon has is all wrapped up in one. The coaches have created a new atmosphere and it is where I want to be.

“I am excited to see how I grow there. Hopefully, I get drafted into the NFL in three years, but if not, I know I will come out of Oregon a better person. It is a great fit for me.”

Dickey is the third commitment this cycle for Oregon.
