Where does Texas stand with one the nation's top WRs Micah Hudson

For much of the summer, it was thought that a commitment to Texas Tech could be imminent for Temple (Texas) Lake Belton Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Micah Hudson.

The Red Raiders still lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), but that decision has yet to be made by Hudson. Schools like Texas A&M continue to battle for his recruitment, while others are trying to work their way from the outside in.

On3 National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman told Josh Newberg on On3’s The Inside Scoop that one West Coast school is making a strong push to get Hudson on campus for a visit.

“Texas Tech has been trending on the RPM since — I think I put my pick in back in April or May — and for good reason,” Spiegelman said. “The Red Raiders have been trending with Micah Hudson and his family for a good chunk of time and the coaches over there have really made inroads with Micah Hudson, the Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver from central Texas. Schools like Texas and Texas A&M never went anywhere. But I can tell you he didn’t show for his official visit at Texas in June, and they’ve seemed to kind of switch gears and are really chasing after five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo.

“A&M has really dialed the heat on Micah Hudson, but you have to look at Oregon as a team making the strongest push to try to get him out of state right now,” Spiegelman added. Will Stein, their offensive coordinator over there in Eugene, has strong Texas ties especially to central Texas — they have a couple of commitments already. And they are working hard to get Micah Hudson out to Oregon for a visit, he has not been there yet. We know his history, they play on Friday nights at Lake Belton and it’s been very hard to get him out of state. He no-showed at G-Day in Georgia, he’s not attended a lot of schools like LSU and Tennessee and then Ohio State have worked very hard to get him out of state.

“There is a lot of interest, I’ve heard from sources, between Micah Hudson and Oregon. A visit is in the works and they are hoping to get that in-season. If there is a team right now that is going to push Texas Tech, you have to look at the Ducks and the work that they’re doing behind the scenes with one of the top uncommitted pass-catchers in the country out of the state of Texas.”

Hudson wants to be 100% certain about decision

Spiegelman said that being certain about the school he chooses is crucial for Hudson, as he plans for his first choice to be his final one.

“Yeah, you know one thing we talked about we talked about Texas Tech trending for Micah Hudson for a good chunk of the offseason,” Spiegelman said. “But the reason he didn’t commit — he wants to be 100% when he makes his decision. That’s very cliche, Josh, I know you’ve heard that time and time again, I have as well. But with Micah Hudson, he’s just a different kind of kid and he is very sincere about that. He doesn’t want to flip and he wants to be — if I am Micah Hudson committed to this university — he wants to represent that fully. I think the fact that he didn’t commit or make a decision before his senior season showed that he wasn’t 100% in any direction.

“I think that opens the door, that he wants to be 100%, he’ll take any extra visits he needs to,” Spiegelman added. “Whether that’s getting back to Lubbock or making it out to Eugene or College Station. I think this is going to play a little bit longer than he anticipated only because he wants to be fully sure and he doesn’t want to be one of those kids that flips or decommits. When he commits, it will be over. And that wait is going to continue a little bit.”
