Penn State will be without leading scorer Kanye Clary today against Nebraska, while another key backup will also miss the game due to injury, according to a report.

Daniel Gallen of Lions247 reported the news that Clary and backup forward Demetrius Lilley will miss the game.

Klary had missed two games a couple weeks back before returning and playing in the last three games. But he’ll be out again on Saturday, a significant blow for the Nittany Lions, who sit at 12-13 overall and are currently 10th in the Big Ten standings.

So far this season Kanye Clary is averaging 16.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.0 steals per game. Replacing his scoring won’t be easy.

Lilley has a slightly smaller impact, averaging 2.8 points and 2.6 rebounds on 9.5 minutes per contest.

Penn State and Nebraska are scheduled for a 12 p.m. ET tip in Lincoln, Neb., with a broadcast slated for the Big Ten Network.

Mike Rhoades remains confident in his team

After putting together a short three-game winning streak, Penn State has lost its last two games to fall under .500 on the season.

Despite that, coach Mike Rhoades remains confident in his team and doesn’t think it’s too late to turn things around.

“No. I mean, you guys probably wrote us off, and then we go win at Rutgers and win at Indiana; none of you guys thought we’d win in Indiana,” Rhoades said. “I thought we could. I thought we could have won today. That’s just me; that’s why I took the job. People don’t think we can win here, watch. We will. It’s just gonna be really, really hard, and there’s gonna be a lot of tough decisions, and you’re gonna have some nights like this (against Michigan State). I’m built for this, and I’m gonna find dudes that wanna be built for this.”

The biggest issue for Penn State this season has been the lack of consistency. Sure, there’s a win over No. 20 Wisconsin. There are also losses to Bucknell and VCU.

Getting more consistency will be key for the Nittany Lions going forward.

“Can we go beat teams? Yeah,” Rhoades said. “But we showed that anyone could beat us, and that’s the frustrating part. I wish we were more consistent; I wish we were mentally tougher. We’re not. At times, we are… we have a couple of days of that good stuff and a couple of days, we revert back. We’ve just got to continue to work through and build it and keep teaching these guys the right way: what’s gonna help win games in the Big Ten consistently.”
