Medina (Ohio) High quarterback Drew Allar has been the engine behind his team’s offense all season long, and the four-star Penn State quarterback commit was back shredding defenses on Friday night. But his most impressive throw of the night came on a 4th and 5 with Medina leading 17-14 in the third quarter.

Allar rolls to his right, stops and delivers a perfect strike to his receiver in stride in end zone. It exemplifies not only his arm strength, but the deft touch he has as a thrower.

Coming into Friday’s game, Allar had thrown for 3,748 yards, 44 touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He has added nine rushing touchdowns as well.

Drew Allar could be a Day 1 starter at Penn State

Allar, the No. 21 overall player according to On3, has made a major case to be considered the best quarterback in this class.

“We’ve seen Allar get increasingly more comfortable as the season has progressed,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power said earlier this month. “He’s been rolling in recent weeks. The Penn State quarterback pledge has continued to show his strong, downfield arm. He’s able to flick the ball around and touch all areas of the field. The arm talent continues to look like it’s among the best in the class.”

With senior quarterback Sean Clifford potentially graduating and moving on after this season, Penn State should have an intense quarterback competition this spring. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Drew Allar running the offense when the Nittany Lions open the 2022 season.

Blue and White Illustrated’s Ryan Snyder had high praise for Allar last this week, naming him Penn State’s biggest commit.

“While Trace McSorley and Clifford have both been pretty good for Penn State under Franklin, not having that elite quarterback play that Ohio State has had in recent years has played a major role in the Nittany Lions not getting over the hump.”
