The SEC Network had a special guest on during halftime of Wednesday’s game between Ole Miss and South Carolina: 2023 SEC Player of the Year and SEC Defensive Player of the Year Aliyah Boston. Boston, fresh off winning the SEC title in Greenville, S.C., was on the desk to provide some analysis.

Her Gamecocks classmates entered the half down 30-29 to the Rebels and Boston was asked what she saw from the first half.

“As the game went on, I think the pace picked up, which was really good,” Boston said. “Ole Miss, to start off, they were hitting a lot of threes. But I do think that South Carolina did a great job reading the defenses and making the extra pass, especially on the drive to the corner.”

The commentators on the desk then asked Boston how her team discusses adjustments at halftime.

“As a team, we come in and we talk about what we think,” Boston said. “Then the coaches come in and they say what they think and they draw something up on the board. They say that we just have to be locked in on the specific adjustments that they make and then we go from there.”

Aliyah Boston looking to complete perfect season

The South Carolina women’s basketball team has the potential to have an undefeated season after going undefeated through the regular season and SEC Tournament.

Aliyah Boston said that the team is used to being the favorites and embrace that opportunities that provides.

“The first thing is embracing it but also just understanding that you’re playing your game,” Boston said on the SEC Network. “That is the focus. Don’t worry about anyone else and what they think. Just play your game.”

Boston was named SEC Player of the Year and SEC Defensive Player of the Year. It is her second time winning SEC Player of the Year and her fourth time winning SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

She is almost guaranteed to be a unanimous All-American for the third straight season.

But the individual accolades aren’t her focus. She wants to win the title.

“Just cutting down the nets again,” Boston said. “I mean going back-to-back would be something truly amazing and that’s our goal, especially coming into this season. Now that we’re actually almost in that moment coming up this next week, I’m just ready for it.”
