Former South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley has officially announced his plans after his college football career. He will be joining the Florida Atlantic Owls as an offensive graduate assistant, he announced on his Twitter page Thursday afternoon.

He’ll be joining the Owls following one season as a signal-caller for the South Alabama Jaguars.

In his only season for the Jaguars, Bentley completed 70% of his passes for 2,476 yards with 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 10 games.

His final game at South Alabama is truly the stuff of legends. On Nov. 26, in his final performance, he threw for 354 yards and two touchdowns on a torn MCL and ACL. He tore his ACL a few weeks earlier on Nov. 6 against Troy. Then, rather than have the surgery and end the season, he opted for rehab so he could play in one final game — against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

He tore his ACL three times during his college football career.

Not only that, but he also suffered a Lisfranc injury in his foot during the 2019 season for South Carolina.

Bentley’s career numbers at South Carolina

During Bentley’s four years at South Carolina, he passed for 8,409 yards, 61 touchdowns and 38 interceptions. His best season came in 2018, when he threw for 3,171 yards, 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 13 games.

Bentley’s father, Bobby Bentley was the former tight ends coach at South Carolina. He also coached the running backs at South Carolina under Will Muschamp. Bobby Bentley also was a successful high school football coach at Byrnes (Duncan, South Carolina) and Presbyterian College. His stepbrother (Chas Dodd) and brother (Shuler Bentley) both started at quarterback in college.

As a high school prospect, Jake Bentley was selected to play in the Under Armour All-American Game.
