Phillip Dukes On Why Spencer Rattler Will Stand Out To Nfl Scouts | 02.28.24

South Carolina‘s Pro Day took place on Tuesday in Columbia as the Gamecocks’ NFL hopefuls tested and competed in drills in front of NFL evaluators ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Quarterback Spencer Rattler and wide receiver Xavier Legette were one of the best duos in the SEC last season. And both are now also two of the team’s top prospects for the NFL, both invited to this year’s NFL Scouting Combine along with three other South Carolina players.

SEC Network’s Peter Burns was in the house for the Gamecocks’ Pro Day on Tuesday and gave his instant reactions on Rattler and Legette’s impressive performances that potentially improved the draft stock of both players.

“As good as Rattler looked the NFL combine, he looked even better today at Pro Day,” Burns quote tweeted under a video showing some of Rattler’s best throws from the day. “Everything was tight, ball zipped out his hand & had total control of the day. Kid is a leader & someone is going to get a damn good QB.”

Rattler has taken advantage of his opportunities leading up the the draft in April, with Pro Day being his latest.

He didn’t impress at the NFL Scouting Combine with his running ability, posting a 4.95-second time in the 40-yard dash. But he did dazzle during the throwing portion in Indianapolis, impressing scouts and evaluators with his tremendous arm talent.

Rattler also turned heads at this year’s Reese’s Senior Bowl, putting together a solid week of practice in Mobile, Alabama, and earning Most Valuable Player honors from the game after completing all of his pass attempts including a 29-yard touchdown throw.

“Also, holy hell Xavier Legette is a beast. Stood out today,” Burns added.

Like Rattler, Legette also impressed in the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine. Running an impressive 4.39-second 40-yard dash along with a posting 40-inch vertical jump after measuring in at 6-foot-1, 221 pounds in Indianapolis.

After never reaching over 20 catches for 200 yards in any of his seasons with the Gamecocks, Legette had a breakout season last year for South Carolina. Ranking second in the SEC with 1,255 receiving yards along with 71 catches and seven touchdowns.

Rattler boasts 42 career starts between his time at Oklahoma and South Carolina, while Legette made 32 during his five seasons in Columbia. As the experienced playmakers have now completed their NFL Draft preparation and will wait to see what their NFL futures entail after making strong impressions this offseason.
