South Carolina tight end Trey Knox was not at practice on Friday during the portion that was open to the media, according to Mike Uva of On3.

Rumors have surfaced on social media that Knox has sustained an injury. Mike Uva of On3 has heard that Knox is “day-to-day.”

“My understanding from talking with people close to the situation is that Trey Knox did get banged up but it’s not considered anything serious,” Uva Tweeted Thursday night.

Knox transferred to South Carolina from Arkansas this offseason. The Tennessee native started 12 games for the Razorbacks last season, catching 26 passes for 296 yards and five touchdowns. He is expected to be a big part of the South Carolina offense this fall, if he can stay healthy.

Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer is scheduled to meet with the media on Saturday and should provide an update on Knox then.

In addition to Knox, star receiver Antwane Wells was reportedly also not at practice on Friday. Payton Titus of The State reported that Knox and Wells were absent, while Edge Terrell Dawkins and linebacker Pup Howard were on the side without pads or a helmet. Titus also said that running back Juju McDowell was wearing a knee brace.

The good news for the Gamecocks is that linebacker Stone Blanton, receiver BJ Gibson, running back Kamron Sandlin and safety Peyton Williams are all back and fully participating in practice, according to Titus.

Spencer Rattler raves about the impact of transfer addition of Trey Knox

If Trey Knox is healthy, he should be one of the top weapons for quarterback Spencer Rattler.

Trey Knox had an up-and-down career through four seasons as an Arkansas Razorback, but is now at South Carolina hoping to make a bigger impact with the Gamecocks than he did with the Hogs in his final year of school. While he’s had his fair share of highs and lows in Fayetteville, Knox is undoubtedly a talented playmaker and has nearly 900 yards and nine touchdowns for his career.

The new Gamecock tight end is already getting along well with Rattler, who said after the spring game that he’s thrilled to have an experienced player like Knox on the roster.

“Yeah, I mean, you can’t complain when you got guys like this, Trey, many other guys and guys coming in,” said Rattler. “Trey has been a great add-on to our team, very selfless, great leader, experienced guy in this conference and he played really well tonight. I was happy to get him his first touchdown in Willie B [during the spring game].”
