The excitement and energy surrounding the South Carolina Gamecocks’ football program has never been better. On Saturday evening, before a raucous crowd in Columbia, South Carolina, the Gamecocks just finished their spring game and gave their fans a glimpse of their roster heading into next season.

In the third quarter, South Carolina fans got to hear from their backup quarterback Luke Doty, who spoke with Roman Harper of the SEC Network.

First, he discussed the things he’s been working on at the quarterback position. “I think just going back and assessing what I’m good at and what I’m not, and then really just working on the things I’m not good at,” said Doty. “I think I’ve come a long way since then.”

One of the biggest improvements he’s felt he’s made have come through spending time in the film room.

“Just finding things every single day to get better at. Just one thing every single day, I think has really pushed my game forward. Spending time in the film room breaking down coverages and defenses, things like that. I think it’s elevated my game.”

Then, he discussed how watching Spencer Rattler has helped him improve.

“And then, obviously, Spencer coming in here, and being able to watch him and the way that he operates has been awesome for me because I can take the things that he does and add them to my toolbox as well,” Doty said on Saturday night.

Last season in limited action, Doty completed 10 of 14 passes for 146 passing yards, while tossing in two touchdowns and two interceptions. In the 2020 recruiting cycle, Doty was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 90 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

The Gamecocks have plenty of depth at the quarterback position, as fans got their first glimpse of their highly explosive freshman quarterback, LaNorris Sellers. The dynamic dual threat made some exciting plays in Saturday’s spring game.

He connected with D.J. Black on a beautiful ball across the middle near the end of the third quarter. Sellers was rated as the No. 20 quarterback in America for the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

His senior year at South Florence (Florence, South Carolina), the dynamic dual-threat shined and in a big way. As a passer, he threw for 2,948 passing yards, while tossing in 45 touchdown passes and just two interceptions. As a runner, he ran for 1,338 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns en route to leading the Bruins to a 4A state championship. He was also a finalist for Mr. Football in the state of South Carolina.
