On this week’s episode of “Completely Cocky,” South Carolina wide receiver Josh Vann discussed the drama that began when he revealed that offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield called a play on third down that the team may not have been prepared to run against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Vann said he believes social media reactions misrepresented his comments, but also said he should have kept the comments in-house. Although the podcast, hosted by Vann and Darius Rush, is an opportunity for fans to get a behind-the-scenes view of the season, perhaps the wideout overshared.

“I really didn’t even think about when I had said it, I really can’t be dwelling on it. Social media is social media, people take it out of context the majority of the time,” Vann said. “I addressed it with coach, my coaches and stuff, just apologized about it because stuff like that really needs to stay in-house.”

“Us as players need to know out jobs and do out jobs, whatever situation we get thrown in, that’s kind of like where I was going with that statement but you know, obviously, it kind of got twisted the wrong way,” Vann continued. “Trust me, I’ve seen that happen plenty of times.”

Momentum slows for Gamecocks after Week 1 win

The Gamecocks lost the game to Arkansas, 44-30. They went on to lose in Week 3 as well, taking a 48-7 bruising from the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs.

“I know there was one time, not to bash the coaches or nothing like that,” Vann said in his original comments. “But you know, it was like third down and we called a play that we haven’t went over in like three weeks. So you know, mind you, as a player, you’ve got to know the whole playbook so whenever something may get thrown onto you you can go out and execute and line up fast. But at the same time, we hadn’t went over it. So you can’t expect, in the heat of the moment, for somebody to recognize on the fly to know what to do. So it was just little simple mistakes from players and coaches, bruh. Butt like you said, Arkansas is behind us.”

South Carolina has moved past the Week 2 (and Week 3) losses, now focusing on a 7:30 p.m. kickoff versus Charlotte on Saturday.
