Spencer Rattler and Jadon Haselwood may have been teammates at Oklahoma, but now the former quarterback-wide receiver duo is readying to do battle against each other.

Rattler is now leading South Carolina, and he’ll be looking to defeat Haselwood’s Arkansas squad on Saturday. Still, the Gamecocks quarterback is excited to look across the field and see a player and person he spent so much time with on and off the field.

“It’s going to be cool. I saw he had a touchdown catch last week,” stated Rattler. “We still stay in touch, and it’ll be cool to see him.

“Hopefully he doesn’t make too many catches this week, but I always want to see him do well.”

Moreover, the duo made noise for the Sooners before both decided to move on from the program during the offseason. Last season was Haselwood’s best with Oklahoma, catching 39 passes for 399 yards and six touchdowns, while Rattler was benched in favor of now-USC quarterback Caleb Williams.

In Week 1, both former Oklahoma offensive playmakers made their new team exuberant. Haselwood caught three passes for 42 yards and a touchdown for the Razorbacks, while Rattler passed for 227 yards and a touchdown for South Carolina.

Now, there will be no love between Spencer Rattler and Jadon Haselwood during the showdown on Saturday, but the duo will have some catching up to do afterwards.

Spencer Rattler is preparing like a sniper for South Carolina vs. Arkansas

Moreover, the South Carolina Gamecocks are preparing for a significant Week 2 matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Both teams were pleasant surprises in 2021, outplaying expectations.

Now, the two must get ready for an early SEC conference matchup with significant implications. The preparation approach the Gamecocks are taking is a precise and focused one. Their quarterback Spencer Rattler recently said their preparation was akin to a sniper’s work on the battlefield.

“Just knowing to take what they give you. Play our offense; play our scheme. And then, when that play’s there; when that shots there, take a shot,” said Rattler. “It’s gotta be precise aggression. It’s kind of like referring to a sniper. You know what I’m saying; you gotta have that precise aggression. And when your shot’s there, take it.”

This past Saturday, the Gamecocks kicked off their 2022 season at home against Georgia State. South Carolina did exactly what they were supposed to do and defended their home field, winning 35-14. Rattler had a bit of a shaky start to his South Carolina career, throwing two interceptions in the game.

Saturday’s matchup against Arkansas will go a long way toward showing the South Carolina faithful just what kind of team they have this year. But for them to have a chance to upset the Razorbacks, Rattler must be pinpoint and precise with his accuracy, a la, a sniper on the field.
