Chattanooga (Tenn.) Bradley Central four-star athlete Boo Carter will be back in Knoxville for a high school football game Friday night before attending Tennessee’s game against South Carolina on Saturday night.

The Vols will take on the Gamecocks in their ‘blackout’ game under the lights.

Carter is the nation’s No. 205 overall prospect and No. 9 athlete in the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 2 player in Tennessee.

Carter committed to the Volunteers back in June and has visited the in-state program more than any other school.

“This whole June has been a hard journey for me because there’s a lot of coaches — even schools not in my top five — trying to get at me,” Carter told On3 in June. “I was just ready to get it over with, and I knew Tennessee was going to be a great place for me to play. I know how they develop players, and I know I can be the next big thing to come out of there. So I feel like I just need to stay home.”

Carter said that Tennessee made him a huge priority given being one of the top players in the state of Tennessee.

“They came really hard since I was the No. 1 player in the state,” he said. “They understood that they couldn’t let me go anywhere besides the University of Tennessee. When I had the meeting with them, they told me they were going to use me on both sides of the field. I’m going to be on defense more, but they’ll use me for both.”

Josh Heupel heavily involved in Carter recruitment

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and assistant Tim Banks, Kelsey Pope and Willie Martinez were all heavily involved in Carter’s recruitment.

“He played a great role in this — him, Coach Martinez, Coach Banks and Coach Pope,” Carter said of Heupel. “Coach Heupel wants me to play offense, but since I got an offer as a DB first, he said I’ll play DB but I can learn the plays to get to offense. He keeps it real, he’s a good coach, and I like how he treats the players. I know I could fit in at that program.”

Tennessee heads into Saturday night’s game 3-1 on the season with a road loss to Florida. South Carolina is 2-2 but went on the road and gave Georgia all that it could handle before letting the Gamecocks’ lead slip away.

No. 1 offensive tackle Jordan Seaton is also set to visit for Tennessee’s game this weekend, he told On3.

“Sources tell On3’s Josh Newberg that Seaton has canceled his visit with the Sooners and will instead take an unofficial visit to Tennessee this weekend,” a report from the On3 National News Desk stated. “He also plans to take an official visit with the Volunteers later this fall, and at this time is unsure if he will reschedule the [Oklahoma] visit.”
