A lot of firsts have already occurred in Hoover this week, with drama unfolding at the SEC Baseball Tournament. Christian Moore may have produced another, hitting a home run over the batter’s eye on Saturday against Tennessee. If you ask the SEC Network broadcast crew, they have never seen anyone hit a ball that far.

Moore was down 2-0 in the count and was apparently ready for the high fastball coming his way. Going over 113 miles per hour off the bat, the home run wound up going 441 feet. An absolute no-doubter from Moore to give Tennessee a 5-2 lead.

Tom Hart said it best, “That thing was smoked.” Not too often in college baseball do you see a dead-center shot, clearing everything in the outfield. It’s not something you see too often during the SEC Baseball Tournament.

You can watch the home run from Moore here.

Getting late in the game, Moore’s two RBIs just gave Tennessee a little more room for comfort down the stretch. We have seen some incredible finishes at the Hoover Met this week but the Volunteers were thankful to add two more to their tally.

Tennessee heading to SEC Baseball Tournament championship game

Tennessee came to Hoover with high expectations as the No. 1 overall seed. Winning the SEC Baseball Tournament has occurred just four times in program history, with the most recent title being in 2022. Head coach Tony Vitello would love to add another one.

LSU will be on the other side on Sunday. And despite being the reigning national champions, the entire 2024 season has not gone to plan for Jay Johnson and the Tigers. Nobody in the SEC has played better than them down the stretch though, setting up for a great matchup.

“We were 3-12 in SEC play,” Johnson said after LSU beat South Carolina on Saturday afternoon. “We just won our 40th game of the season and the NCAA Tournament hasn’t started yet. That’s toughness. We’re playing better than anybody in the country right now.”

Anything can happen in a one-off game and a good one should be in store. One team will head into the NCAA Tournament with their heads hanging high while the other will have some motivation to bounce back.

Not many things in college baseball are like Championship Sunday from Hoover.
