Tennessee Volunteers Basketball Vols Roll Gators 85-66

The Tennessee Volunteers earned a 19-point win over the Florida Gators on Tuesday, largely on the back of a 39-point game from Dalton Knecht. For Knecht, this was the next game in a growing historic streak of scoring success.

After the game, he attributed the success he’s had to working hard with his teammates and playing with confidence.

“Just playing with confidence out there,” Dalton Knecht said. “I mean, I’ve had a couple stretches where I’ve done that but it’s a lot easier with my teammates every single day, and practicing as well as the games just making it super easy for me and also just getting into the right spots with the coaching staff for putting me there and just playing with confidence. A lot of hard work.”

In the last three games, Knecht has 103 points scored over the last three games. That’s the most for a Volunteer over a stretch of three games in 25 years. It tops the 89 points former Tennessee guard Chris Lofton delivered in 2006. He’s also the first Volunteer to score 35 points in back-to-back games since Allan Houston in 1990.

Along with the win over Florida, Tennessee also has wins against Mississippi State and Georgia during that stretch.

Dalton Knecht came to Tennessee ahead of the 2023-24 season as a transfer from Northern Colorado where he spent two seasons following a two season stretch at JUCO. Even with that big step up in competition, Knecht has played incredibly well, averaging 18.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game in 17 games. He’s also shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three-point range.

Next up for the Volunteers is a home game against Alabama on Saturday. Whether or not Knecht can continue his streak of scoring success in that game remains to be seen.

Rick Barnes speaks about Dalton Knecht’s road success

Recently, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes shared his thoughts on Dalton Knecht and his road success while name dropping Kevin Durant.

“Well, I did have Kevin Durant. So, I saw it a bunch,” Barnes said.

“[It’s their] mindset. It’s a mindset where, you know, short memory. Not afraid of the moment, willing to go make the big play, and if they don’t — they’ve got a great ability to bounce back. … Dalton, you guys have seen him know that when he gets that look in his eye, he can go do this. And he did. He did it.”
