Four-star EDGE Caleb Herring of Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Riverdale High announced his commitment to Tennessee Tuesday morning.

The 6-foot-6, 210 pounder chose the Vols over USC, Georgia, and Miami.

Herring discussed his decision to ultimately choose Tennessee.

Tennessee checked every box for Herring

“First off, a lot of people are going to think I chose Tennessee because of my brother, but that’s not true,” Herring said. “I chose Tennessee because I think it’s the best place for me. Another reason why I chose Tennessee is because I’ve always had that close relationship with the Coaching Staff. They started talking to me ever since they got to Tennessee. And they really prioritize me.”

Caleb Herring has strong relationship with Tennessee coaching staff

“I talk with Coach Heupel, Coach Ek, Coach BJ, and Coach Banks every week,” Herring said. “They always bring that energy with them, especially Coach Ek. He’s crazy, but I love it. And this is a staff that I love having my family around.”

Bond with current commits in Tennessee’s ‘23 Class is strong

“I’m already close with a good amount of them,” Herring said. “And a good amount of the recruits are from Tennessee. Jack has been trying to get me to come to Tennessee before this class started getting all of these commits. And he finally got what he’s been asking for. Nico hit me up like last week, and he just said I know where the move is. A week later both him and Jack got what they wanted. Nathan Robinson said that I’d be the leader of this defense and everybody will revolve around me, and hearing him say that played a big role in me choosing Tennessee.”

Herring ranks as the No. 63 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally-weighted industry generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting services. He also tabs in at the No. 8 EDGE and the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee.

The top player in Tennessee joins the Vols Top 10 class in the country, alongside Nico Iamaleava, Jack Luttrell, Ethan Davis, and others.
