The Tennessee basketball program has picked up a big-time commitment out of the transfer portal. Former Hofstra star Darlinstone Dubar has committed to the Vols, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Dubar had a monster season at Hofstra in 2023-24, averaging 17.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

Dubar shot nearly 54 percent from the field and nearly 40 percent from 3-point range this past season while helping Hofstra to a 20-13 (12-6) record.

He is now joining a Tennessee program that is coming off of an excellent year under head coach Rick Barnes. The Vols finished with a 27-9 (14-4) record, advancing all the way to the Elite 8 before coming up just short against Purdue.

Tennessee is in need of scoring with All-American Dalton Knecht off to the NBA draft. The Northern Colorado transfer averaged 21.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season.

Darlinstone Dubar is certainly capable of providing scoring. The Charlotte native averaged 11.7 points per game as a freshman in 2021-22 and 10.3 points per game in 2022-23. He then took a big leap this past season, jumping up to 17.8 points per outing.

Prior to playing at Hofstra, Dubar started his college career at Iowa State. He signed with the Cyclones as a member of the class of 2020.

Dubar played in 16 games as a freshman at Iowa State during the COVID season, making seven starts. He averaged 2.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game before entering the transfer portal.

Dalton Knecht thanks Tennessee coaches for his one year

You can bet that Darlinstone Dubar would love to have the type of season at Tennessee in 2024-25 that Dalton Knecht just did.

Knecht was a superstar from start to finish and is now set to be a lottery pick.

He credited his close relationship with coach Rick Barnes for much of his development at Tennessee. Barnes quickly learned how to use Knecht, and Knecht very quickly began to understand how he could flourish with the Volunteers.

“I would say it’s by far the closest I’ve ever had to be with a coach,” Dalton Knecht said. “He’s coached me super hard ever since I told him on my visit that I wanted to be coached super hard, and he’s held up to his end.

“He’s been beyond just that. He’s been helping me off the court, on the court. He cracks jokes and stuff like that. Coach Barnes, I love him to death, and I can’t thank him enough for bringing me in for my one year here.”
