Jalin Hyatt injured his hamstring at the worst possible time — during the NFL Combine. The former Tennessee star wide receiver updated the status of his ailment during the Vols’ Pro Day of Friday.

“My hamstring got a little tight before I ran the 40-yard dash and the routes, but I think it [originally] got tight after the vertical we did. I felt it, but at the Combine, I felt good,” Hyatt said during Tennessee’s Pro Day. “There were some times when I wished I had some better timing on things, but that’s just how it is. But as far as what I did at the Combine, I feel like I did pretty good.”

Hyatt was off to a good start in Indianapolis as, running a 4.41 in the 40-yard dash with a bum hamstring. That was still good for top-10 out of all wideouts at the Combine. Workouts down on the field were only helping his draft stock as well, impressing in front of a ton of coaches, scouts, and general managers.

Hyatt broke out during the 2022 season alongside quarterback Hendon Hooker at Tennessee. The pair helped lead head coach Josh Heupel’s up-tempo offense to a No. 1 ranking in the AP Poll at one point during the season.

Individually, he was able to haul in 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns on 67 receptions while guiding the Vols to a 10-win season. Hyatt added some individual hardware to his cabinet as well, winning the Biletnikoff Award, which honors the best wide receiver in college football each season.

ESPN analyst and former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum released his mock draft earlier this week and slots Hyatt at No. 25 overall to the New York Giants. That would pair Hyatt with QB Daniel Jones and put him in a receving corps featuring the likes of Isaiah Hodgins, Wan’Dale Robinson, David Sills V and Kalil Pimpleton.

Curiously, Tannenbaum also Hooker going No. 5 overall tothe Seattle Seahawks, who’s coming off a torn ACL. Hooker put together a strong year for the Vols in 2022, but hasn’t appeared in many mock drafts largely due to his injury.

The 2023 NFL Draft is set to take place from Thursday, April 27 through Saturday, April 29 in Kansas City, Missouri as Hyatt looks to hear his name called on day one. If not, he won’t have to wait long to hear it on day two.
