Tennessee Volunteers edge Morven Joseph has put his name into the NCAA transfer portal, a source confirmed to On3’s Matt Zenitz.

The sophomore from Lakeland, Florida, played in one game for the Vols this season before opting to transfer. He recorded one tackle (a sack) versus Tennessee Tech in mid-September.

Joseph played in two games in the 2020 season, recording one tackle versus Georgia and one tackle versus South Carolina.

The Florida native was an On3 Consensus four-star prospect coming out of Lake Gibson High School. He was the No. 126 prospect in the nation in the 2020 class and the No. 27 linebacker.

Portal season kicks into high gear

As the end of the 2021 football season draws near, the transfer portal season is kicking it into high gear.

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

The process of entering the portal is done through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database and everything is off and running. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request and that request cannot be refused.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.

Joseph joins Bailey, more Vols in portal

Tennessee second-year freshman quarterback Harrison Bailey entered the transfer portal less than two weeks ago as reported by On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Bailey is the third quarterback to leave the Volunteers program since June. The Vols kicked true freshman Kaidon Salter off the team for multiple off-field incidents in June. He transferred to Liberty. In August, third-year quarterback Brian Maurer left the program.

Harrison Bailey appeared in just one game for the Volunteers this season. He threw for 16 yards and rushed for eight in Tennessee’s win over Tennessee Tech. The former four-star played in six games as a freshman, starting the final three games of the Volunteers 2020 season. The 6-foot-5, 220lb quarterback completed 48-of-68 passes for 578 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.
