Santiago Vescovi listed as Tennessee starter vs. Creighton despite illness

Tennessee guard Santiago Vescovi is expected be available in the Volunteers’ matchup against Creighton in the Sweet Sixteen, per John Sartori. Vescovi was questionable ahead of the game due to illness.

Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes revealed on Thursday that the fifth-year guard was battling some ailment. Barnes said then that he expected Vescovi to play against the Bluejays.

“Yeah, he’s just under the weather a little bit, but we expect him to be ready,” Barnes said.

Vescovi is a key cog for the Volunteers, starting in all 34 games for Tennessee in 2023-24. The fifth year guard has seen his scoring average almost cut in half from last season, but still plays nearly 26 minutes a night and averages 6.5 points per game, 3.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

The Volunteers and Bluejays are scheduled to tip off right at 10:09 p.m. ET on Friday evening at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit.
