The Tennessee Volunteers just completed a historic sweep of the Florida Gators on Sunday afternoon and they needed a number of late game heroics to pull it off. First, the Volunteers battled back from three down in the ninth inning to push the contest to extra innings. Then, when Tennessee was up 6-4 in the 11th inning and needing one out to complete the sweep, Christian Scott trotted back to the warning track, jumped, and extended his glove over the left field wall to rob Florida’s Jud Fabian of a homerun.

Check it out here.

With the win, the Volunteers became the first SEC team in 16 years to pull off a sweep of the Florida Gators in Gainesville. It’s just yet another impressive stat for Tennessee to add to their remarkable resume during their 2022 campaign. The Volunteers are currently the proud owners of a 37-3 overall record and stand at 17-1 in the SEC. They remain the top-ranked team in all of college baseball.

When Tennessee was down by three runs in the top of the ninth inning, Jorel Ortega drilled a solo homerun to cut the Florida lead to two runs — 4-2. Then the bases were loaded for freshman Christian Moore. That’s when he drilled a two-run single to bring in two runners to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning.

The Volunteers forced extra innings and would win it, thanks again to Christian Moore. He drilled a two-run homerun to give Tennessee a 6-4 lead in the 11th inning. The homerun marked his ninth of the season and gave him four RBIs on the afternoon.

Tennessee currently leads the nation in a number of statistical categories, including home runs and ERA. It will be exciting to see if they can close the deal and bring home the 2022 College World Series Championship.
