For the second time in three recruiting cycles, Tennessee has landed one of the nation’s elite quarterbacks. On Monday morning, Nashville (Tenn.) Brentwood Academy 2025 quarterback George MacIntyre announced his commitment to the Volunteers, choosing them over Alabama, LSU and a handful of other programs.

MacIntyre is the nation’s No. 2 quarterback and No. 16 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the top recruit in the state of Tennessee.

Head coach Josh Heupel and offensive coordinator Joey Halzle attended multiple games of MacIntyre’s over the past and stayed in constant communication. MacIntyre was also in Neyland Stadium a few times this fall and got to see what playing in front of the Rocky Top faithful would be like. He took one final visit to Rocky Top over the weekend, taking in a Tennessee basketball game with Heupel by his side.

Alabama was the other major contender in his recruitment, but the Vols had been trending since the fall when he got on campus for his second-to-last visit.

“I spent a lot of time with the coaches,” MacIntyre told Simmons after his visit in October. “Their message is that I’m their guy and always have been. They tell me the right guy with the keys to the offense makes Tennessee special.

… Seeing them make their way through the SEC again this year is big. I love the family feel in Knoxville and they have a great support system around the quarterback with coaches and schematically.”

Vols have made MacIntyre their only target this cycle

While Alabama and LSU have both shown interest in other QBs — and the Tigers recently landed No. 1 overall prospect and top QB Bryce Underwood — Tennessee has been all in on MacIntyre.

They didn’t pursue another passer in this class, pushing all of their chips to the center of the table on MacIntyre, who will join a quarterback room next fall that also includes Nico Iamaleava, On3’s No. 1 overall recruit in 2023.

He’s the sixth commitment for the Vols in 2025, joining four-star tight end Jack Van Dorselaer and three-stars Justin Baker, Shamar Arnoux, Dylan Lewis, Tyler Redmond.

MacIntyre gives the Vols an heir apparent to Iamaleava, who will begin his sophomore season in 2024 as the starter.

From a scouting perspective, On3’s Charles Power writes this about him as prospect:

“Tall signal caller with strong projectable tools as a passer and playmaker. Measured in at around 6-foot-5.5, 185 pounds with a 9.25-inch hand prior to his junior season. Has a tall, wiry build that should continue to fill out over time. Touts a tight, compact throwing motion with little moving parts. The release is whippy quick. Flashes good arm strength, with the ability to flick passes out to the boundary and downfield.”

As a junior last fall, MacIntyre completed 285 of 423 passes for 3,229 yards, 25 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and three rushing TDs.
